This tool is specifically designed to provide a quick feedback for organisations to assess their capability in delivering BIM Level 2 and to highlight areas for improvement. It is ONLY an initial step towards giving a detailed consideration to improve performance through BIM. For a follow up, please contact us

.
The assessment is based on the ability of an organization to use its internal competencies, i.e. combination of skills, processes and technology, to establish or plan the required capabilities to meet BIM Level 2.
Organisations’ capabilities can be differentiated by the efficiency of utilising the available competencies. The latter are likely to be resourced differently in different organisations and how they are integrated and coordinated.
The organisation is relying on technical (software) staff to deliver 3D models (individual disciplines) as and when required by projects. “BIM Heroism” is dominant but with growing BIM competency.

There is informal agreement on the Element Breakdown for BIM development but with no clear modelling guidelines and standards. If any, they are configured on a project to project basis.

Specifically-trained “BIM coordinators/managers” are leading the development of the multidisciplinary and coordinated 3D models among stakeholders. BIM responsibility lies at operational units.

Integrated software systems are shaping up to meet BIM deliverables, mainly over design and construction. In particular, solutions for collecting, storing and exchanging information and documents are established among the concerned stakeholders.

BIM competencies required for the development of a collaborative information model are targeted and developed, across the organisation; aiming to improve efficiency. BIM responsibility lies with each person and roles are embedded within the organization’s various units.

BIM Information Delivery Manuals are available, for all stakeholders to follow, based on a Digital Plan of Work. Performance targets are established throughout the project life cycle with clear shared BIM objectives (based on full collaboration between stakeholders).

BIM technologies (all software required to develop and use BIM over the project delivery stages) are fully identified, their implications are understood and their effective deployment to add business-value are acknowledged by managers; e.g. real-time sharing of information and documents is managed through “intelligent” CDE.
